Write for us

We welcome contributions from writers in Australia or abroad. We’re looking for opinion and analytical pieces that are easy to read and written in an engaging way.

First, pitch your idea to editor@rationalist.com.au in no more than 200 words. Explain why your idea matters: what makes it fresh, different, intriguing?

Then, if your idea is accepted, submit the full article. Ideally, between 600-1,000 words; maximum 2,000 words. Feel free to include photos, graphs, or videos, with relevant captions.

We reserve the right to edit articles, but this will always be subject to your final approval.

Write simply, clearly and logically. Avoid jargon. Use the active voice, not passive.

Letters to the editor

Submit Letters to the Editor to editor@rationalist.com.au. Ideally, between 100-400 words.

We prefer letters that reference previous articles published in Rationale, but they can be on other topics. The editor decides whether a letter is published.
